What is a landscape photograph?
This landscape photo is my most successful image because out of all my images I feel as if this image has more of a peaceful meaning, especially as its such a bright sun set . looking at the image makes me feel as if its calming and smoothing .
'Wrong' landscapes
Everything about this image points out how it is wrong . It was an unexpected mistake of art. The lens was out of focus and I was close to slipping on the grass . But what's makes this image stand out from the rest is the fact that , it was photographed at the wrong time to create the perfect wrong unexpected image . So that's why when looking at it , there's so meaning reasons and thoughts about it .
In picture number one its based around a war image , theses not much detail to it . But what stands out in this image is the contrast of colours which in a a way stands out and makes the image come to life . Where as the second image comes across as fake . Due to the fact that the image looks compressed and stretched in a way . The lighting on the man and horse is very dull making the back of the image come ascross as bright . But as you look closely to into the image the image comes ascross a staged . Because of how the sky blends with the floor making is seem as if the image is made for advertising or theather perpersis.
The key similarities with both images is its a deserted picture that you really have to look closely to really deep the possible meanings behind it.
Unlike the other image with the hourse.
Both images are both apart of the older generation. But they are both as unqiue as each other. Image on the left if more contructed .Rather than the image on the right, which looks as if its a magazine cover for the threture and smoking ad.

Ray K. Metzker 'Pictus Interruptus'
Ray K . Metzker was an American photographer known chiefly for his bold, experimental B&W cityscapes and for his large ''composites'', assemblages of printed film strips and single frames. Metzker was born in Milwaukee and lived in philadelphia from the 1960's until his death in 2014 . Metzker was married to the photographer Ruth Thorne- Thomson.
What makes Metzker was stand out is the high level of contrast he uses , when taking his photographs . The bold unquie images Metzker makes stands out and is more meaningful . What I like about Ray K . Metzker's work is how he turns his simple imagies into such a eye-opening creation . Its not what the image and focus point is, its how the image is taken which makes it his work. Metzker often said the artist begins his explorations by embracing what he doesn't know. Upon further research I came across two images of Ray k Metzker's work that had court my eye.

Disrupted landscapes
Todays task was to play around with the landscape images I previously had taken. I had three copies of the same image and which I just exsperemiecd with , with a plan. The outcome was better than expected . And the locations i had chosen to become a back job of the images, worked really nicely .
More disrupted landscapes
In todays lesson i went and photographed my old images and played around with the images, cutting , ripping , mirroring one another. I wanted to create the same kind of images as last time , but more mysterious and without a focus point. Because I believe when you don’t have an exact point to look at , you play most attention to the things around the image instead of the focus point.
Construced Landscapes : What remains
In the first image it's clear that the main focus point is the tree , which has been cut out and placed to have a black background . which makes the reader of the image wonder what other things could have been in that image , before it became just the tree. However in the image on the right by Liz Nielsen is a very simple images constructed in a way where us as the views has to think deeper to really understand what the image is about . The main similarities between the two is both Geraldo Barros and Liz Nielsen’s images are in black and white , and they both have the same theme which is nature . There are no people in either images which helps us in a way to actually focus on the background and where about's the image could possibly have been taken.
When looking at Geraldo Barros's image I feel as if my mind is telling me there more to what meets the eye. Because when I looked at the image as first glance I was thinking a tree is such a basic common object to photograph , so why photograph it ? But then we you look at it again you then think , you cant actually judge the image just because you can see one thing in front of you . Thats why adding the black back ground makes views want to imagine more and think more . Where as on the other hand Liz Nielsen’s image has a young child likes approach in which the way the way the shapes have been cut out . But actually has quite a mature theme into it . Because adding less is more and thats what makes me want to look at it more because when having such a simple picture , it’s s beneficial in a way because every time I look at Nielsen work I feel as if I can see something new every time I look .
Thinking about recreating both of these images will work , but it wont become successful because I feel as if what makes both of these images so successful is not putting too much planning and thought into it , and just naturally trying to create something.
Geraldo Barros has created this image by placing a landscape photograph of a tree cutting to so the only focus is the tree . In which the photographer has then placed it on a black back ground . However Nielsen image has been created but cutting shapes up and fixing it into a unique fixed shaped which then created the settings of a garden themed photograph.
Both of these images has the theme of nature, which I'm not a fan of . But the curious to know what the whole of the image looked like at the start when Barros created it . And its me being so curious to see the before which makes me really want to know more , which I like. How the thought of the Nielsen's work is inspiring and comes with a very morden abstract them which makes me like this one as well and probably a bit more.

Landscape photograms
In todays lesson we had to rephotograph my previous photos into photogrames . The process wasn’t that difficult , but it was hard if the step were not followed in order. First you have to place your image down under the in larger , so the image can be photographed onto the shiny piece of paper you'll keep that there for no more than 18 seconds . The next step will be will be to put it into a developer tray for 1 minute , so the image can appear. The place it into the stopping tray to stop the chemical from running and then eventually ruining the image . After that you'll place the image into the fixing chemical to fix the image in place for 15 seconds. After that the last thing you would do is leave it to wash , because there were chemicals on the image and you wouldn’t want anything to rub off . However when carrying out a process like this , it's very unexpected , so you would have to work quick for the best results .
The out come of the images was a success . Because the right tone was was transferred onto the paper to create the last few images. However the blurred effects makes the images look more effective .
Tree photography
These were the images that I took , walking around Greenwitch I took abstract and diffrent images , trying to make the best of what was around me , to create something diffrent from the rest each time around . When taking these pictures there wasn't much feeling or a thought processes running though my mind . But when looking about at the images . I feel as if all the images are giving me peace of mind. Not just because of the diffrent tree styles but more of the background . For example the weather and the building behind the trees makes me feel as if I'm looking upon a calming envioment.
However out of all of these images my favourite photographs are these two because , image one makes me feel as if I'm starting a new begging due to the fact that the builds are symmetrical to each other and the trees and and building are surrounding the image making the pathway and sky the most visible thing which is also the focus point. As a hole it links to landscape photography well. However image the image on the right , gives me tropical vibes , like the palm trees on a beach in Jamaica . It makes me feel a sense of joy , however if I could create it , I would change the background to a blue sky and sand on the floor.
Brea Souders
Brea Souders is a visual artist working primarily with photography . Her work has been shown internationally around the world . When people takes photos they tend to take photographs of people, a group of people, or an object . Whereas Brea does take pictures of an object which would be the focus point . But also includes a human figure , where this is her or somebody else , we do not know. However what makes her pieces of art admiring for me is the fact that each image one after the other is made from a special google pixelated camera. which pieces the photos to gather but can come out with a glitch within the images . But that stands out to me is the fact that the images will never come out exactly how it's been viewed in reality .By shaping the physical materials that comprises the majority of her photography , sources satisfies her . Interest in psychology and chemistry . Brea Souders shadow images are made by what looks like to me as a google special camera. what is a pixilated camera that captures the best view of the image in which it can see , however it doesn’t pick up the whole image . So a bit might be cut out .
Google Glitches
Dafna Talmor
Dafna Talmor Is a photographer who works with landscape photography. Her work stands out from the rest by the use of the imagination aspect that comes from her work .Constructed Landscapes transforms colour negatives of landscapes initially taken as mere keepsakes through the act of slicing and splicing. Dafna Talmor's work is like no other due to the process behind each image .
At first glance at the image the image looks as if it was cut out and stitched together, while also making the outline look as if it was burnt . And the fact that you really have to think about it makes this so unquie. The contrast and tones link together so create an abstract piece which doesn’t appear to be intentional.
Upon research a video explaining how she made such images helped identify the process and hard work put into the image . While also it being clear that there’s never a certain image in mind .
both of the images I would say represent a once calm and peaceful environment that is a breaking point and is slowing destructing around us . Which overs may look at is as a environmental warning photograph.

Experiment
In today's experiment inspired by the theme of landscapes the task was to cut small images and make them into a collage images and Poisson them into a square themed landscape. To try and create a landscape that shows each small piece with a range of tones was not as easy as it looked . But I decided to just experiment with no plan in mind and see what the outcome would be like. The result was not what i had in mind but I liked how abstract it looked . However I wouldn’t consider caring out this kind of experiment again , due to how much control I did not have when carrying out the images .
Jaroslaw Demartin
Jaroslaw Demartin's photography links to landscape photography nicely because of how he adds random objects to his photography work which makes the views of the images play attention to not only the landscape but also the object within the image , to create a disrupted landscape . Most of Demartin's objects are based around sticks and cigarettes . The kind of objects most photographers would not want to consider as the objects worth photographing due to the possible idea of the items being perceived as "unimaginative ". But throughout each image each object is either placed in the air or on the floor creating a unique style in which on Demartin can make because its so original .
Constructed Landscape abstract advent calendar
Constructed landscapes
The idea of today was to create an image from small old images and recreate them into something abstract which will be placeed into a projecter and enlarge to see the outcome which turned out better than exspectied however there are rooms for improvement .
Constructed landscape slides
Creating an image can be a struggle sometimes when you don’t have any idea of what the outcome could be . Today’s lesson was definitely one of the hardest. In which I had to recreate an old vintage image and play around with it to make it a new version of art . In doing that I had to trust the process and create something out of the ordinary. Working with an image that is not mine in a much smalls frame , helped me to understand that not every piece of art work can be made by the perfect incisions . Once you found a image you wanted you had to try and play around with ink , string and paper . To try and create an urban themed landscape. Once you had created it you’d place it into an old photo projector and watch how it could evolve .
However what even though my out come was not as expected it was an experiment in which I have never had to do before . And looking at the images I can clearly see where I had over texturised the materials and over lapped them and added to much ink . Now knowing how this works I'd have a much wider and greater understanding of that to do and what not to do next time.

The final outcome
Caring out the experiment for the first time my outcome made me realise that less is more . So my second attempt on this experiment was to do simple adjustments and see if that would help recreate a better image . The process of creating my two final out comes was tuf however I’m more satisfied with the results. Image number was was a natural dark image there for I new I had to work with less ink and do more cutting of darker areas . After a while I new that what I had in mind wasn’t really going to work out due to the whole image being very dark . So I decided to just play around with it and recreate some unordinary lines .
However my second piece I had more success with . I played around with a empty sweet rapper to place of the girls stomach and added a house at the top right of the image . At first glance I didn’t really think this was an successful piece of art . Until I really thought about it and it looked as if the girl in the room hates that room because she’s home sick . That’s why the room is red because it symbolises red and hate and green symbolises sickness.

Abstract making photography
The final outcome made me feel as if it was more of my piece due to the fact that there was alot going on from an image that was basic. Making this more of an art piece , ratther than a piece of someone else’s .

Chemigram research
Chemigram photography is a popular form of photography used by photographers to create an image made by painting with chemicals on a light-sensitive paper. In 1950s chemigrams where discovered by Belgian artist Pierre Cordier . Pierre Cordier had said that "Abstraction entice us to enter imaginary worlds of form , line and colour .
Upon research looking into more about chemigram photography I’ve found artists vlogs about the processes and experiments being made.

Alice Cazaneve Workshop
On the 7th of February we had an artist visit from Alice Cazaneve . Who came and carried out a workshop on chemigram photography . Showing us the different ways chemigrams can be made and the processes and different experiments that people carry out.

Editing photos using others apart from Photoshop
The first out come of editing with Photoshop was not successful . Its a long and hard process however it is achievable . My first step though was to learn tips and tricks behind the photoshop. Upon research I quickly came to the realisation that Youtube was not helping and not the best for me. I then took my research to TikTok in which I had much more of a successful outcome. However it was still a hard edit to achieve due to me not doing editing for long.
Later on within the week I decided to try out new ways of creating landscapes , through the disruption of other landscapes which would overlap the other image below it . These pictures are experimental outcomes , so within the next week I would have a better understanding of what I was doing. I had used over contrasted lighting , and a range of color tones to make each experience different from one another - creating a graphic appearance .
However my favorite outcome was definitely the last to images as seen as below . The main reason why I prefer these images more than the other ones , is due to the fact that it looks time consuming . But those images had less done to it and took the less time , but somehow looks the most engaging and applying . |
Final Outcome
My final outcome for me was successful as an edit . The contrast of colours naturally without editing in the first images will help me when I come to design.
A Personal Response
Throughout the last couple of weeks I've been experimenting the art of landscape photography. Which I thought linked well with me , and what I like . sky photography and roses is one of the most relaxing things to look at. while photographing it you find difficult aspects and all different types of interpretations while looking at it , its a unique moment of time that can only be captured once. I worked on more sunsets , sunrises and clouds . Mostly with trees overpowering the image to represents growth and power. I later then took my experiments to Snapseed, an editing app that I've used throughout most of my photography, simply because its easy to use at times and can create most of the same effects as photoshop , but more for a beginner. The key features I used was saturation and double exposure , to create the effects of a bright image as well as give the allusion of a doubled up image .
The meaning behind the image of the car wheel and sky represents moving on into something new . which gives a sense of peace .Because it's a neutral toned photo with a warm sun dominating the image .
The meaning behind the image of the car wheel and sky represents moving on into something new . which gives a sense of peace .Because it's a neutral toned photo with a warm sun dominating the image .
As my outcome I combined each and everyone of my ideas into a collage. The one on the left was how it was originally and the one on the right was the one I over saturated , in which I would later take on to make something more complicated .
Weaving photosI had ideas of mono printing my image to create the college in a more abract art way. Realising that , that idea could be perceived as too 'basic' I started to work with the experiment of weaving . Weaving is taking strips of paper and placing them either over or under , the base piece of paper. I wasn’t too keen on the idea because I thought it would be too complicated a-special with the wide ranges of colours which may combine together and create the image as too dark or too complicated .
However I decided that it would work out better if I make the strips of people bigger so its one easier to identify which image is which , and two not too complicated . |
The weaving was created by the same collage image but one in color and one in black and white. I wanted to see what this would look like as a photogram.
For the Constructed Landscapes project I have researched a range of photographers for inspiration, such as Ray k. Metzker and Brea Souders. However, throughout my research I felt that Brea Souders' work was more interesting. I have explored a range of techniques for this project, such as photograms and chemigrams which have helped me further develop my ideas. Dafna Talmor is a photographer who I had researched earlier on in the project, but the reason her work has such an impact on me is due to her way of thinking about constructed landscapes. I tried to emulate her work when coming to my final piece by cutting sections of my images and combining them to make the final outcome. Over the course of the year I have experimented with a wide range of materials , techniques and processes for unit 1. They include : Photograms, Camera obscura, chemigrams , pinhole camera , light painting, moving images, Photoshop and darkroom printing.
I have investigated three sub themes: mobile photography, multiple images and abstraction. The starting point of my abstraction photography project was researching the photographer, Ray Metzker, because he takes images in a disrupted and abstracted way. He was the only photographer that I had found interesting because his images were so bold yet simple, as though it was taken by accident. I found his work unique because it made me look into depth at the image to really understand the concept of it. I went around my school to find unusual places to recreate images from one photo, and although the outcome was not what I had expected, I later found the outcome to be positive.
My biggest inspirations came from my online research. Instagram helped me to think out of the box with everything I did, helping make me look at multiple images and multiple interpretations of those images. Landscape photography didn't mean anything to me until I learned all the different ways two forms could come together to create a whole new outcome.

I am pleased with my final outcomes because it came out well. I created 6 images which I formed into one , through the processes of editing and reconstructing. I focused on lighting and toning predominantly to do with nature and the sky. If I had to create my own title I'd call it 'Peace within what you see'. The reason for that tile is because, when I look at the image, I see multiple different images in one reflecting on positive things within one image - to create peace.
